Sock Yarn Stash Flash!!
As promised, here are some pics of my enormous sock yarn stash. I will note that the yarn for Jaywalker is currently being used and will not be in this post.
And awayyyyyyyyyy we go:
Solid yarns:
1) KnitPicks Dye-Your-Own; unused. Actually a small part of the loose skein was dyed but it's a huge skein and I haven't had time to wind it into something I can get onto a swift.
2) All yarns marked 2 are various colors of Cascade Fixation. I don't really like it for socks, but there were other projects I'd meant to use this yarn for. Such as iPod cozys and what not.
3) One lone ball of solid Kroy. I had 4; 2 were to be used for solid green socks(but I only used one, hmmm) and the other two are lost in space.
Variegated yarns:
1)More Cascade Fixation. Don't ask. Just, don't ask.
2)Overdyed Kroy. It WAS variegated pinks, but I through some Kool Aid in and that was the result. I posted the socks from that foray in a previous post.
3)Leftover Lorna's Laces in Lorikeet. Also posted about this previously. Managed to knit both those socks from one skein.
4)Opal something or other. Not much left. The socks are here somewhere.
5)Elann Sock It To Me. in I believe, Spice.
6)Even more Kroy. The yarn came that color.
7)The remaining unused ball of ArtYarns Supermerino sock yarn. The other ball is attached to a current project, Pomatomus.
8)Oops I was wrong. That's not Kroy. That's some gray Lane Cervinia Calzetteria I overdyed with Kool Aid. The bottom part there is where I left off on an attempt at Falling Leaves. It was coming out too big on size 1s. I don't think I like the way it was turning out regardless so I'll use the yarn for some other endeavor.
9)Koigu.
10)Leftover Koigu from my Crusoe socks; previously posted.By far my favorite Koigu color.
11)Even more Koigu. I don't know why I bought this but I will use it.
12)You guessed it. More Koigu
13)Leftover Koigu; first I ever bought. used in two pairs of socks and I STILL have some left.. wow.
And now on to Self-striping/Jacquard yarns:
This was my downfall as far as sock yarns is concerned. I almost bought two more ballsof Trekking the other day. But after a while.. all the patterns seem the same.
1)KnitPicks Simple Stripes. I started a regular old sock with that and I think it's off the needles because some of the stitches came off and I just got flustered and ripped them all out. Might turn that into kid socks.
2)More KnitPicks Simple Stripes. Unused.
3)Elann Sock It To Me Puzzle. Same for 4,5 and 7. 5, was supposed to be an extrapolation of this thong-sock, a pair of which I'd made from the deep torquoise Koigu from the previous picture. Somehow, I got confused and the heel was at a 90degree angle to the toes.. oh well. Back to the drawing board.
6)More Opal. Partially used. Gee, I must not be making my socks long enough!
Well, there we have it. And no, you can't have any!
WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Pics.
I tried to get up some pics of my DS socks, that I made yesterday (had time while waiting for the bus to come) but I am out of luck... since I am not a genius when it comes to computers I am absolutely sure it is something I am doing wrong...will have to wait till hubby gets a free minute to do it for me.
More sock related news: I am on another pair for me this time ( so far nobody has spotted the new socks hehehehe...I might just get lucky this time ;) ).I want to make a lace cuff.... we'll see.. ( they are toe up again... I think I am hooked...)
have a great day !

My name is Karen, and I am a sock yarn addict. I have a drawer full of just sock yarn, plus more that is being hidden from the hubby at the bottom of a basket. Like Bean, I am already planning on my next sock, but not finished with my current pair (Jaywalkers for SockapalOOOza). I think the next ones may be Jaywalkers for me. Or a plain pair for the little one. I have some pink/white self striping Lorna's Laces created special for Purl Soho that is calling my name. For now, I leave you with one finished Jaywalker (I'm almost up to the heel on the second), made from Schaefer Anne:
Welcome Aboard!!
Just want to say Welcome to our newest sockaho.. I mean members, Karen, Annie, SpinnDiva, and CMTigger! The more the merrier. And thank you Irene(Texanadian) for the Sockbug link! Between that, Knitty, and my Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush, I should be set with sock patterns for life! *or at least the next ohhhhh 100 years* :)
Speaking of, I haven't finished my Jaywalkers yet and already am ready to cast on another pair. I've got some yellow/white variegated ArtYarns and I'm not afraid to use it!

Olympic project? What Olympic project?
Yesterday for my day out with Jenn I brought along my Conwy sock. This one has been languishing a bit, because the pattern is pretty intense. Lots of little crossing stitches to contend with, so it's not as mindless as some of the other things I'm knitting.
But yesterday I got to the heel flap:
And a detail of the pattern stretched out:
The yarn is Lorna's Laces in Tahoe, and the pattern is Conwy from Knitting On the Road.

Well, I am new here too!
Thanks for inviting me!!! Wohoooo I am so happy to be here...
I have no pics of my socks... I never realy thought of taking one ( plus I got my digi cam from Santa only this christmas) and most of them "walked away" anyway...with friends and family... handknitt socks in this household have a tendency to stray...but I promise I will snap a pic of the next pair ! ( even if I have to nail them down to do so.. foot in it and all.. ;) )

yet another new member introduces herself.
Okay, my first post here. I'm up to 12 and 2/2 pairs of socks.....
A few of my socks from this past year. Starting with a recent pair of Opal Dreamcatchers.
Next, the very first pair I made- made with some rambouillet and mohair handspun.
A pair I made for my sister last year from suffolk handspun
Finally, A lacy pair made with knitpick's Dancing.

All Hail the SockBUG!
- One of my fellow twelve steppers (I can't remember who or even if...as I am perpetually bewildered, y'all understand I am sure) sent me a link to http://sockbug.blog-city.com/ and Holy Jesus on the Cross...its like the Knitty Mothership of socks! Here are tips and patterns for lots of kick ass socks. The best part? She is funny as hell AND anal...great, great, great combination for a sock guru. Oops! That 's two...The patterns are, just go look! It is hard to explain how good they are without looking for yourself. Evan's olympic socks will both be done today save the kitchener toe...I want to be with someone that has done it before I attempt it! I like the button Bean! May all you stitches be true....

sox, sox and more sox
This is the first pair of sox I had knitted in years. They were done in Opal self patterning yarn. They have a lacy top and a stockinette foot. I was really pleased with them as I had not knitted with 3mm dpn's in years!!!!
These sox were a christmas present for a very good friend. She had seen me knitting the first pair and was absolutely blown away with her pair. She wore them with her big boots when she went to the Edinburgh Hogmanany Street Party on New Years eve and said it was the warmest her feet had ever been in such cold conditions!!
The next pair of sox I knitted was a pair of "trainer" sox for Ronan, my 10 year old son. They were for his Christmas. Here you see them still on the needles, but I did get them finished in time, but only just.
I was so pleased with the "trainer" sox that I knitted Ronan that I just had to knit a pair for myself. Here you see the finished article. They are really warm and I just love wearing them to work as it gets mighty cold in the middle of the night.......
This is my current pair of sox, being knitted by the Fleece Artist yarn that Stariel sent me. I have only finished the first one. They have been put on hold for the moment till I finish my "Olympic Knitting Project". But might have to take a back seat for a while longer as, Robert my 7 year old is begging me for a pair of knitted sox.
More pictures and sock news later.

Socks Galore
I thought I'd start this off by posting some pics of previous sock endeavors. This is by no means a listing of ALL the socks I've done. Some of them went straight to my(or others') feet without me photographing them. Whoops.
Knee socks for my oldest daughter. Elann Sock-it-to-me yarn.
My first ever pair of socks made from self-dyed Yarn. Various colors(flavors) of KoolAid over Kroy variegated pink yarn.
Regular old socks made with Lorna's Laces(Lorikeet). One sock was toe up--my first time with a toe up sock-- the other was cuff down and boy did that make a difference!
Another every-day pattern. Here's where I joined the Koigu PPPM bandwagon. It's very pretty to touch and knit with. But it's not very sturdy for socks. That didn't stop me from making another pair with it though:
Crusoe socks, at Knitty.com. Slightly flawed pattern but if you know sock knitting like I do, you can easily figure out where the mistake was and fix it easily.
Kroy Sock yarn again, standard issue pattern.
Socks for my then 1-year-old. Forttissima Socka Colori. Hers don't have a heel flap. I have an identical pair for myself.
My very first pair of handknit socks. Also Fortissima Socka Colori.
Scrap yarn socks. There were by far the most fun pair I'd made. Includes the two previous yarns and the leftover yellow Koigu.
There's more sock yarn madness to come, I promise.

A sock history
Once upon a time there was a fairly new knitter.
She decided to knit some tiny Red Sox for a friend, during the playoffs. She didn't have a pattern, but she had spunk.
After the slightly deformed and completely unwearable socks were done, she decided to make some real socks. After a little ripping and a lot of knitting, the socks were done.
And the new sock knitter was beginning to get hooked. Next step 2 socks on 2 circs:
And Magic Loop:

Hello :)
Hello, My name is LaBean and I'm a sockoholic(Hi Labean...). Always looking for new sock yarn, always seeking a new, challenging pattern. And you know what? I don't want any help! So Ha!
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Problem?! The first step to recovery is admitting a problem...What Sock Problem?!
Now here's the deal: I cast on my first pair of socks (I was a sock and DPN virgin) for the Knitting Olympics. What in the hell has happened to me?! I am cruising for sock yarns on line...bought some today AND put some kick ass colors on hold and mooching pattern suggestions ofa Bean. Here is the really scary thing...I DONT WEAR SOCKS. Its Texas. I have three pairs I bought almost two years ago that I haven't taken the label off of. I am planning socks and planning to wear them even! Nope no problem here folks!
Now I will return to my regularly scheduled knitting. Thank you and Good Night....oh yeah the socks, the socks look GOOD...like socks even.

Welcome 12-Steppers and loyal fans!
About this blog: Irene had the idea for the name, and the blog was born within 5 minutes! Here 6 of us will talk about our sock projects.
Why the name? Well, with 6 of us we have 12 feet. And socks are so addictive sometimes we feel like we need a program. ;)
Now, get knitting. :)
ETA: We decided to raise the limit to 12 people because so many people wanted in. However, in the interest of keeping things small we're leaving it at 12.
